Program Areas Include Energy & Climate, Children & Families

San Francisco, CA – The Center for the Next Generation, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank and strategic communications organization that promotes solutions to the biggest challenges facing the next generation of Americans, today announced that it has changed its name to “Next Generation.” The new name, which is accompanied by a new website (www.thenextgeneration.org) and logo, is effective immediately.

“Our work focuses on ensuring a sustainable, prosperous future for the next generation of Americans,” said Matt James, Co-Founder and President of Next Generation. “And, as an organization that uses strategic communications to achieve our objectives, we feel having a short, descriptive name is more appropriate for our brand.”

In conjunction with its new name, Next Generation launched a new website at www.thenextgeneration.org. The website establishes Next Generation as a reliable source of creative, dynamic content that includes multiple nested blogs, easy social sharing buttons, and the ability to sign up for automatic updates from Next Generation.

In addition to the new collateral, Next Generation has re-named one of its key program areas. The “Advanced Energy and Sustainability” program is now the “Energy and

Climate Program” to more closely reflect the issues and priorities championed by Vice President and Director Kate Gordon.

“Our work to promote a clean energy agenda is, at its heart, all about finding solutions to climate change,” said Gordon. “The new name is much more descriptive of the work we’re actually doing to integrate our energy and climate work into one coherent program.”

As a part of the changes to the energy and climate program, Next Generation is combining several of its existing blogs and news services into a single news platform, the California Energy & Climate News. The service will incorporate Gordon’s popular weekly “AB32 Digest,” which documents California’s landmark efforts on climate change, with the blog, “Kate’s Cliffnotes.”  The new platform will highlight news clips pertinent to California’s burgeoning clean energy and carbon trading markets.

In the coming weeks, Next Generation will launch a new blog that focuses on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in California. Led by Vice President and Director of the Children and Families Program, Ann O’Leary, the blog will track California’s efforts to transform its health care system to conform to the new requirements of the federal health care law.

“What California does with the Affordable Care Act will really teach us a lot about how this landmark legislation will work in the rest of the country,” said O’Leary. “We’re going to be digging deep to help people understand the implications – from policy-makers to parents to health care providers, this law is going to impact a lot of people in profound ways.”

The California health care blog and the California energy and climate news will advance Next Generation’s mission, which is to apply the lessons learned from America’s largest, most populous state, and help spread innovative ideas that can be enacted through public policy, private enterprise, families, and individuals.
